The idea came to me when all these new faces appeared before our eyes. In their eyes, I can just imagine what they must be thinking about the existing members. Wondering how, why, what we did to be at our current status. Then it struck me, why not use a "Permanent Record" system that would allow us to record the history of a user in VeX Clan. The Permanent Record system works off other systems to gather information. When a member is promoted, a textarea field would be available to justify a promotion (ie: reference to work in clan, screenshot of game scores, etc...). This would also work the same with demotions, probations, resignations, awarding medals and ribbons, etc...

Just another idea for the future.

Dude, you are just THE vertiable spring of new ideas. Good one here. Add this as a task to the CMS in Collab, please. :D

I have a quick thought for this, we do this at my work to a certain degree. Basically you keep all of hte info you ahve on the people. With the new recruits that isnt that hard. I mean we start by keeping their Recruiter Feedback Forms that cna be the first thing in their files. Then anytime we have an issue, like a clan disturbance or anything that we think should be noted down we jot it down (document it). So lets say if we continually have an issue with someone doing a certain thing over and over we will have record of it when it comes to promitions and such. Its just a lil add on to his i guess but Epa's idea just reminded me about what we do at my work. It aint only for bad things, when they do something great we give them a good doc.

Also for members that have been here a long time why not just open a Topic for each member, keep it open for about a week. Everyone can post on everyone, you can post on yourself and such and then close the topics and sift through everything making it the start of the files. If we kept some of the topics open very long they would become novels. Just an idea.

Player "jacket" History

I too thought of using a single thread for each member. Each VeX would end up with a thread that represented their "file" or their "jacket" with all Clan comments on it. We could eventually move these threads to a Admin- or Mod-only area, kind of like an archive.

I think VeX did something like this in the early days before we had "threads." LOL. It turned into a chore, so we did it less and less and eventually we stopped recognizing the "good things" in a player's file and instead made it so that the file was only for bad things. We recognized a player's good things and achievements by giving them rank and ribbons or medals. That meant a player's goal was to have an empty file. In turn, that made it so we didn't have any retained information on our best players (Kresh, Epagien, Helix, etc.).

Then we turned the whole mess over to the MP department, where they used it a little bit by bringing back the "bad only" things (as you can see by some threads still in there). But we also recognize the good things by using a public thread now and again, and of course, the Rank Polling Booth (which also needs a new name).

The current method for VeX seems to be "in-the-moment" which means that as a player does something good or bad, we recognize it in the moment it happened. For the most part, that has worked.

Technicals:
I would say that instead of reinventing the wheel, we should use the board/forum as a player database, too. Maybe there is a CMS Mod? A Contact Management System? That would work. Or a Mod where we can add text to the player Profile, thereby making a running chronological log.

Let's make sure this idea is in the Collab, ok? Comments?

Technically, we wouldn't be reinventing the wheel. We would be adding to what has already been created. Let's analyze what the forum current provides us as far as functionality.

  1. Message system
  2. User system
Delivers a table consisting of user data. Expandable
  3. Administration system
Gives basic adminstration over forums, templates, and users. In addition, it includes additional configuration options for the forum.
  4. Template system
Provides an easy method to load template files, replace tags with generated information. This system can be expanded to include newer tags. The system can be exported, and modified for our CMS front end.

It is possible to expand the functionality of the existing systems and tables; however, these systems are controlled by a group we have no control over. We would spend time reverse engineering updates just to get our existing mods to work properly.

The ideal process would be to make as little modifications to the existing systems, use what's provided, and seperate adminstration.

Good, good. I'm with you. Where do we attack this project? Move to design and/or collab?
